Unexpected pop-up “Sign-In Required“

User uploaded file

I keep on getting the above unwelcome prompt on my iPhone X (iOS 12.1). It seems to have been triggered by the Grocery Gadgets app: it always appears when I start GG, but also with monotonous frequency (every 5 to 10 minutes) after I have terminated GG.

There is no reason for GG to ask for this. My gut instinct says someone is phishing.

Whereas I use my e-mail often to sign in to services, each one has a different password. I have literally hundreds of passwords (thanks to 1Password).

How am I supposed to know which password is being asked for? And by whom?

Does anyone have any insights?

Regards,

Steve

I would generally be wary of any pop up, like you I would want to know which service is asking for the info and would rather input that requested info from within the app itself.

I‘m not a user of GG but understand it gives you the option to sync lists with others, for which I would believe you need to be properly logged in, and it could be this aspect behind the requests. I would go into the app and see if you are logged in, if not do so, if you are try logging out, closing app and then open and log back in.

If this doesn’t resolve, try logging out, deleting app, restart the X then reinstall and log back in again.

If that also fails, when you next get repeated pop ups, close app and force restart the X, then see if any pop ups appear again without opening GG, if they stop then you will have to decide on whether you want to continue using GG, personally I wouldn’t, but that’s just me.
