How can I use the F14 and F15 key for a shortcut?

I have the same question as this person. How can I use the F14 and F15 key for a shortcut?

My F14 and F15 have no designation in system preferences at al; not being used for anything, and not doing anything when you press them.

Still, I can't assign them to anything useful. I just get the message "already used by a system-wide shortcut". Not as far as I can tell.

Hope someone knows something. Thanks

Yes, F14 and F15 change my screen's brightness. I never set this up. I have brightness keys on F1 and F2, so the redundancy is very annoying since I used to be able to assign custom window sizing tasks to these keys.

I've actually managed to assign a window resize task to F15, though can't get F14 to do anything. Still, I can't remove the screen brightness control from F15. So when I resize the window the screen also gets brighter. This is clearly not a usable shortcut.

Also, when I open the keyboard viewer it only indicates key presses for F1-F13. F14-F19 don't register on the keyboard viewer.

Actually for some reason the settings are available with an Apple wired keyboard as well. It may be a bug in Mojave. I'm not sure why Apple would have purposely removed it for Apple wireless or built-in keyboards purposely. You can send a bug report through the feedback page. Just change the feedback type.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

Sadly I think Apple hard coded the F14/F15 keys. 😟

Customising the Function keys. Ever felt like some of the Function keys that run along the top of your keyboard are wasted space? Your Mac’s Function keys may have little icons printed on them that relate to their default functionality, but that doesn’t mean you can’t customise them to perform completely different actions!
