Hi tonky6500,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I see you have an issue deleting mail.

To clarify, what happens when you try deleting an email?

You mentioned this may only happen with certain messages; do the affected emails have anything in common, like being from a particular sender, being flagged/otherwise marked, or anything else?

Are you trying to delete these emails using gestures/swiping? Or are you selecting them? You'll find details on How to delete email on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch here:

Delete a single email

User uploaded file

  1. Open Mail and go to your Inbox.
  2. Find the email you want to delete.
  3. Quickly swipe left over the message.

To undo deleting an email, shake your device, then tap Undo.

Delete multiple emails

User uploaded file

  1. Open Mail and go to your Inbox.
  2. Tap Edit, then select the emails you want to delete.
  3. When you're ready, tap Trash.

Depending on the type of email account you have, you might see Archive instead of Trash when you try to delete emails. You can edit your mailbox behavior settings to change this.

If you're seeing an Archive instead of the Trash option as mentioned above, these steps should help:

Edit mailbox behavior settings

To manage your iCloud email account, which ends with icloud.com, me.com, or mac.com, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts.
  2. Tap the iCloud email account that you want to manage.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Mail.
  4. Tap Advanced.

If you have a secondary iCloud email account on your iOS device, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts.
  2. Tap the iCloud email account that you want to manage.
  3. Tap Account > Mail > Advanced.

If you have another type of email account:

  1. Go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts.
  2. Tap the email account that you want to manage.
  3. Tap Account, then tap Advanced.

From here, you can also choose whether to delete or archive messages. When you swipe left over a message that you want to discard, you'll see Archive or Trash based on the settings you select.

Hopefully this information is helpful!

Kindest regards.
