Apple Maps Not Working via CarPlay

Apple Maps app is not displaying on car screen via CarPlay?

Ford Sync 3 v3.0; iPhone X 12.1). Connected to car system via USB cable.

All other CarPlay apps work normally on car screen, including Google and Waze maps.

Apple maps app displays fine on iPhone X screen, including while connected to car.

But on car screen, Apple maps just displays a blank white screen with grey grid lines, and a blue location curser that appears to move when I drive. Can even select a destination and hear turn by turn directions (via the car speakers). But no map details are shown on car screen (roads etc.).

Have tried rebooting Ford Sync 3 system in car, hard reboot on iPhone. Uninstalling/ reinstalling Apple maps app on phone. Restarting car. Disabling bluetooth on car and iPhone. Disconnect / reconnect usb cable.

iPhone X, iOS 12.1, null

Hello bruce02user,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use Maps on the screen in your car via CarPlay, but you don't have the same issue on the screen of your iPhone. Since you have already tried some good troubleshooting steps, make sure you have followed all of these steps, including checking for updates for the car stereo, and then contact Apple for further help.

  1. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Make sure that Siri is on.
  4. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
  5. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and tap Forget This Car.
  6. Check your connection:
    • If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
    • If you have a wireless connection, enable AirPlane mode by going to Settings > Airplane Mode. Don't enable Airplane Mode from Control Center.
  7. If needed, install firmware updates. Check your car's manual for more information.
