Apple Pencil 2 not working

Have the new 2018 iPad Pro and Pencil 2.... yesterday the pencil would skip whenever I was writing... like it lost connectivity. I would reattach it to the side of the iPad and remove it immediate and it would work again. This happened almost hourly - all day while working.

Now today - it’s not working at all. I can’t write or even swipe screens on the main menu. If I check in the Bluetooth settings it’s still connected. I’ve forgotten the device and rebooted the iPad a few times... but it’s still not working.

Any other ideas before I make a trip into the apple store?

Love the new pencil - feels and write so much better - but totally disappointed it’s not working.

I never thought to do this... my husband did... but he tightened the nib and it’s been working perfecting so far. I never had an issue with the nib loosening on the first pencil... hopefully it’s not a problem with the second one but once tightened, it’s working perfectly.

I dont even see the pen anymore in the bluetooth settings.

Went through everything with Apple Support, even wiping the iPad and everything but it wont connect anymore. I can see it trying to connect but its just not happening.

The Support guy said that they got a few reports about this and I think there will be a lot more coming since this seems to be a software issue with bluetooth.

Should that not be solved until next week I will get a refund on the iPad and the Pen.

This just started happening to me as well. The pencil has worked fine since 11/7, but on 11/12 around 11pm eastern it stopped working. I unpaired it and couldn't re-pair, rebooted the iPad several times, wiped out the network settings, and then ultimately wiped the iPad and started from scratch. Nada.

I've got an appointment for a phone call with Apple later today, but I'm guessing it's not going to help at all. :\

I started having the same problems on a Pencil 2 a few weeks ago; Bluetooth connection, but it would stop all ‘connection’ with the screen. Dead in the water. Googled the symptoms, tightened the nib on the pencil and it works (and this reminds me that I took the nib off ~2 weeks ago for some reason).

Taking the nib off, cleaning it(?) and putting it back on can’t hurt.

I just recently upgraded my iPad to a IPad Pro 11. I then decided to purchase the new Apple Pencil 2 to go with it. When I received the pencil and went through the set up although it connected by Bluetooth it did not work. After doing a full reset stil had the same issue. I contacted apple and they went through things and on conclusion it must be a faulty pencil so my network provider replaced it.

on receiving the new pencil paired it with IPad by Bluetooth still will not work. I went back to the EE shop and on discovering that the pencil connected to their display model and worked the conclusion that the IPad was faulty. They then replaced the iPad as it was under 30 days old took it home connected the pencil and it worked perfectly well. Whilst my IPad was on charge the Auto updated feature updated the iOS to the latest version 12.1.4 now my pencil still connects via Bluetooth but now wont work. Conclusion the IOS update conflicts with the pencil 2 stopping it from working when will you be rectifying this issue???

Make sure that you do not have any sort of protective casing on your ipad. The pencil should stick directly to the side of the ipad.

Additionally, may be irrelevant, you can check the battery levels on your apple pencil by adding a widget called «batteries». For that

1) you need to swipe to the left-most screen (while you are on your home screen).

2) click edit at the bottom of the screen and click on the plus sign next to the «batteries» option.

Now you will see the battery charge levels here.
