2018 Mac Mini monitor wake from sleep and power light

I just got my 2018 Mac Mini Wednesday and hooked it up to my LG Ultra 4K monitor via USB C. Works great except:

  1. The monitor won't turn back on when I wake the mini from sleep. The only way I've found to get it on is to unplug the USB C from the back of the monitor and then plug it back in. The mini seems to wake fine (because my Apple Watch says it logged me in to my mini), but the monitor won't come back on. I have not tried another monitor yet...
  2. The power indicator light on the front of the mini stays on solid even when sleeping.

Anyone else having these issues?

Thanks!

Mac mini, macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

I've been coming back to this thread repeatedly for months to read updates. I finally found a solution which was buried in a nearly identical thread. I wanted to share my success here for future Mac OS users.

Problem first noticed: Early November 2018

Resolution date: Late May 2019

Resolution provided by: Apple-Identified Developer

Device: 2018 i7 Mac Mini (from launch day).

OS: 10.14

Monitor: BenQ EW327OU.

Video connection method: Direct, Thunderbolt 3 (Mac Mini) to USB Type C (monitor)

Cable type: Thunderbolt certified, Active USB C, USB 3.1 - Gen 2, 40Gbps rated, 3ft long.

Issue: Monitor won't wake with Mac Mini during Apple magic mouse input or Apple wired USB keyboard input.

Prior to fix: Only way to wake monitor was to disconnect and reconnect thunderbolt 3 cable.

Solution: Install Display Link Kext regardless if you use their auxiliary external display equipment; be sure to grant system access for Display Link in the privacy panel immediately after install, reboot Mac when complete.

After installing Display Link Kext and granting the extension permission: Apple magic mouse input and / or Apple wired USB keyboard input will now wake 2018 Mac Mini AND BenQ monitor at the same time; no more physically disconnecting and reconnecting thunderbolt 3 required, YAY!

Absolute same problem here with Mac mini 2018 and LG 27UK850-W. I erased ssd and did a fresh install of Mojave. problem persists. what I found out: Mac seems to wake up but login screen does not show up. so what I found out is to simply insert you password without a screen and the hit enter again. just imagine the login screen and voila… the desktop appears. just remember the steps to login… try it on a restart without problems to remember the procedure.

other notes: I installed every possible app from LG support (dual display, true color etc) but none of them solves the problems. worst case is to simply hold power button to force shut down. after that the password reset will appear which takes up to 10 minutes to bypass that. I first encountered the problem with one LG 27UK850-W. then I purchased a second one from another dealer because I thought it would be a rare problem with the one display. but I have the problem with both displays! so it seems obvious its a Mac related problem. I tried to connect with HDMI and/or USB-C and several usb-c ports. does not make any difference. at the end its still connected via usb-c.
