Notifications not working for Messages

I did the reset from the Activity Monitor, and everything started working BUT Messages, I was hoping the update to Mojave would fix it, but it didn't. Anyone have a sure fix, this is very annoying since my wife and I communicate with Messages many times a day, and I don't get a notice of a new message from her. It comes in on my iPhone and iPad, but not this iMac. It's working for news and a couple of weather apps, but not Messages.

iMac, macOS Mojave (10.14.1), Core i6 24 GB RAM 27"iMac Late 2013

Hi,

Close the System Preferences app.

Restart the Messages app.

The reset the Notifications for Messages back to the On position.

Thanks Ralph, this is the second time this happened. I did the Quit Process from the Activities Monitor (upper left button in app) on both Notifications and Messages, which worked the first time, but not this time. So, before I shut down (put it to sleep) for the night yesterday, I decided to reboot, after it restarted I sent the wife a text telling her to send one to me and lo & behold, the reboot fixed it. I don't recall if I did that the first time. Anyway, I've added your process to the "things to try" doc I made for this, THANK YOU.

Best regards,
