My AppleTV keeps crashing

I have an Apple TV 4K and Sony 55” LED. About 2 weeks ago my the Apple TV started crashing and showing what appears to be HTML code for an episode of Ray Donovan. I made sure my software was updated, that didn’t fix it; I reset the device back to factory settings, still kept crashing... brought it to the Apple store and they told me that they don’t know what the issue was even though they witnessed it and that I would have to buy a whole new device...

Each of the lines on screen mention Showtime, so it could be related to that service.

Does the Showtime app crash only, or is the Apple TV totally unresponsive after that happens?

Did you report this issue to Showtime? If their app is faulty, then they should fix that. No-one else can.

Crashing of apps shouldn’t be able to take the OS or other apps or the whole unit with it, so it is pretty scary that this happened. If an app show this screen, then that is the most unhelpful way to inform the user of any issues, like pre-release software.

Is your Apple TV out of warranty already, that the Apple Store wasn’t more helpful?

I am having the same issue, but it happens on ANY app, exactly, every sixty minutes. Same equipment set-up, Apple TV and Sony one-year old top-of-the-line televisions. The iOS is up to date as of December 2018. Like other comments, it started with Ray Donovan and the ShowTime app. Deleted the app and reinstalled it again after a long talk with ShowTime support. Things were good for about a month.

 

Then the same issue, now on every channel. I watch mostly YouTubeTV and Netflix. It has consistently crashed at the 26 minute mark for many weeks. Unplugged and reset. Cleared all open apps, etc About a week ago it moved to the 30 minute mark, every 60 minutes, then to the 34 minute mark and last night on the hour.

 

I have two exact set-ups in two rooms, so I swapped the devices and the problem continues. Any suggestions?
