Can't copy and paste original format in Pages

I just updated to macOS Mojave. While for the longest time I was using Pages 09, it doesn't seem to work with Mojave, so I've switched to the latest version of Pages (version 7.3 (5989)).

This might sound dumb, but no matter I what I do I can't copy text and keep the source formatting in Pages. Normally just 'Command+v' would do it, but the text keeps taking the the format of the line it's placed in. For example if I copy a bolded word and paste it next to an italicised sentence, that bolded word will now be italicised instead. Pages 09 would have kept the bold font.

Any ideas as to how I can fix this?
