Exporting a Quark file to a kindle format brought me to the Amazon site and kindleGen download version to my desktop. it was a .zip file. Downloaded to my desktop which promptly made all other desktop folders disappear. I have searched the cloud and through spotlight, but cannot find any of the folders or files within them. Apple support did not help.... somebody out there HELP??? Thank you!

You might want to post your question again in the 10.11 forum. This one is really for creating epubs with apps like iBooks Author and Pages.
One thing worth trying is a safe boot:
What macos version are you running? (Your profile says 10.11, current is 10.14)
Do you have a time machine or other backup of your system?
yes to what my profile says - 10.11. My iMac is 11 years old - updating the operating system is always "iffy". I realize that I need to upgrade in order to optimize all software.. mostly adobe suite software (from cloud) and quark which I use on a daily basis.
You should ask in the quark forums. Or kindle forums. Neither of these are apple products.
Of course, I have, no one has any answers. My computer and operating system is of course Apple so I am putting that in the equation too.
Yes to operating system, no to time machine. ( I would have gone there if so). I have external drives. I have lost one important document, my fault for not backing up folder.
What does “yes” mean? 10.11 Or 10.14?
