Mac mini 2018 sleep mode

My 2014 Mac mini 'Status Light Indicator' would pulsate when I put it to 'Sleep' My new Mac mini 2018, SLI stays fully lit when I put it to sleep. Is this normal behavior for the new Mac mini, or maybe as I suspect, the unit is not actually going into sleep mode. To further clarify, my 27" Thunderbolt display turns off, but the SLI remain on.

Can I determine if the Mac mini went to sleep by looking at the system logs?

New normal behavior: the 'Status Indicator Light" on the new Mac mini 2018 stays on in sleep (similar to when it is awake):

Status indicator light: A steady white light indicates that your Mac mini is awake or in sleep; no light indicates that your Mac mini is switched off.

I had the same question. In the Console.app, you can go to /var/log -> powermanagement. There you can see lines like:

Entering Sleep state due to 'Sleep Service Back to Sleep':TCPKeepAlive=inactive

I really miss the fading led. It seems like they did remove a function for the worst. I'm gonna send some feedback to Apple. Do the same if you feel this need to come back.
