I just bought the new MacBook Air, noted that the HD camera is so blurry. The photo that captured using this MacBook turns out to be worse than my iPhone 7 front camera. Anyone facing the same problem?

Same here. I followed all the recommendations to fix it (trying different apps, users, utilities, etc), afterwards I called apple support and after 40min on the phone they told me that this specific computer was designed to have bad quality camera under non-natural light. They said it will only look good during day light and if I'm in a room with lots of natural light. Unbelievable! They said there's nothing they can do from their side to fix it because is not a software issue or a bug. Their only suggestion to "fix it" was that I only use the camera by day in a bright room, I'm speechless!
Unfortunately I can't return the computer because it has been a month since I bought it, but if you are still on time to return it I highly recommend to do so since apple doesn't have any solution and apparently they are not willing to do anything to compensate this fault.
Shame on apple! After 20 years of using mac I'm planning to leave it once and for all.

Apple specifications still says it is a HD camera on 2018 models.

That's definitely not the issue here. It's either a software or hardware issue with the camera.
I did not tell you that, I told you that your report on camera shows you should turn on some lights.
And you are right, I do not have a solution, just showing sympathy is all I can do.

My "CA" on "caps lock" are also faded and it also has atrocious camera quality. I just bought it today. It's a 2019 MacBookAir!! Thinking of returning based on this forum :(

June 11, 2020 and this is still a problem. I have gone through two replacements and both have noticeably WORSE cameras that previous models. Extremely disappointed.
I took our MBA 2018 back after using for 10 mins. It was that bad.
In my 20 + years experience in the electronics industry - it does not appear to me to be an easy fix.
I’m thinking that it could be a vendor problem. Maybe they supplied low quality cams - and apple was unaware.
Or maybe the factory fitted the same 480p cam as the 12” mackbook by accident?
Or maybe there was a deadline and there was a part shortage on the 720HD cams - so someone made a decision to fit the poor UVC cam type?
To to swap out that cam - it could potentially destroy the screen trying to get to it.
If the screen is swapped - with lid and all - that is an expensive swap. The unit would have to be fully opened to unhook the cables. Probably talking a 1 to 2 hour job. Plus the laptop has to be re-tested...
To find another cam may take some engineering effort. Plus it would take a while for that to filter through to new production in China. As big as apple is, they may be able to pull it off sooner than a year.
Wish Apple would comment and let people know where they stand on this issue...
Maybe there is a scrambling behind the scenes to figure out this issue and will officially announce something once they have a handle on it?

To me it looks like the software is being too heavy handed with noise reduction in low light. I can replicate this kind of image distortion with an SLR shot if its taken in low light with High ISO and over post processed.
In good light, the camera is fine for what it is.
I compare the 2018 MBA with my 2015 MBP and the 2015 model is much better.
2018 MacBook Air HD camera is in poor quality.
