2018 MacBook Air HD camera is in poor quality.

After reading the last post I realized that Preview wouldn’t take my signature either. I’m going to guess that many people would experience the same issue if they tried capturing their signature. Can anyone confirm that they used Preview to capture their signature on the MBA Retina?

I ordered my MBA from Apple, it took a few days because they needed too literally make the thing. I have already wrote about the poor quality in the FaceTime camera and the cracking of the hinge, which prompted me to return it. The Preview issue didn’t stick out to me then, I blamed it on lighting.

i returned my today.Mac Book Pro has a better camera quality slightly I think.That one says Apple under system report vs Air has UVC or something. I checked it in store and the picture was brighter comparing to Air.I heard before all 2018 line up is bad but can’t comment on that.

So I took my daughter's today to Apple Store in Stamford, CT. Waited an hour for them to test it and tell me it's all fine. Then I asked them to compare it to old Air. They brought a beat up one and did side by side and it wasn't even close. The old Air was much better. Then told me I can write Apple and they can do the same (but it was clear he wasn't going to). Anyway, I'll ask my daughter but likely returning - very disappointed that they obviously know there's a problem but won't even acknowledge it. Complete waste of time.

That's exactly right; thats why I chose to return it. I think that previous explanation makes sense. These new retina displays offer better definition and the camera is too outdated to keep up with the new screen.

I got replacement. No difference. It is like that by design. Shame on you, Mr. Cook

I totally agree on this. I'll be more than happy and won't be busy posting here if the specs 2018 MB Air Specs say 480P camera. Early 2015 MB Air camera is way better than 2018 MB Air.

Unfortunate Apple has communicated to many of us that this is per design and it is working properly ... I’m sure we all collectively disagree with this

what is the quality when you record in QuickTime or Photo Booth ?

Only in case of bright sunlight or cold, bright artificial light the quality of the MBA 2018 camera is more or less acceptable.

Both are 720p, for the record

Return it while you can guys.This is not acceptable and their support not helping at all. Quality is not their top priority anymore but revenue and $$$. It’s a scam and shame.I returned mine

I have the same issue. My colleagues confirmed too that on the other end of a video call my video quality is definitely not HD as it supposed to be.

I tried with Facetime, Skype, Hangouts - same issue with all.

Different user on the same MacBook Air 2018 - same issue.

The camera quality is certainly not HD.

What can we do to resolve?

Just to clarify, no member of this forum works for Apple.

Also, it might simply be a bug that will be fixed soon via a software update. I don't know if you remember, but the 2018 i9 MacBook Pros were experiencing thermal issues which were fixed 2 weeks after release. My i9 MBP was one of the affected so I definitely understand your concern.

For starters, it would be good if someone from Apple officially admitted the problem exists, the problem is on Apple (and hopefully in software only), the fix is in works... That would be the light at the end of the tunnel.
