Can i sign in to two imessage accounts on a MacBook pro?

My phone and laptop have separate iCloud accounts but i now wanted to try and sign in to my phones iCloud account through my mac so i could reply to my messages on my computer.. is this possible and if so how? I've tried adding the account through preferences in iMessage but it won't sign in to the account.
