Lost duplex printing after Mojave Installation

We can no longer print two-sided after installing Mojave. Safari, Preview, Mail, and other Apple OS applications show the option "grayed out" and not selectable. We can still print two-sided from Microsoft's Office applications, and from PDFPen Pro.

Hi - the following worked for me

  1. https://www.imore.com/how-reset-printing-system-your-mac
  2. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5244577
  3. When going into the print dialogue of Preview, you can check your settings in the "Printer Features" pull down

If it helps anyone else to see my settings - this is what I did.

File > Print

In the active window go to the 3rd pop up menu on the right "Layout"

Select "Printer Features" this opens a series of pop up menus - there are quite a through and you can scroll up and down.

Make sure

2-sided printing: ON

Binding edge: 2-sided long edge

Two-sided printing: Long-Edge binding

Duplex Tumble: DuplexNoTumble

Print document. If satisfied change your presets to Last Used Settings.

I have the same problem. Also, I'm able two print two-sided from Google Chrome, although the print menu comes up with "Save" instead of "Print", and I have to go to the "Print Using System Dialog" option that is presented.

I tried the fix recommended above, but I got a message saying "Unable to communicate with printer", even though my printer works when I try to print.
