IPad double spacing in FaceBook posts

I think you're going to find this "Fix" is a fluke and temporary, the problem will return. It's a code problem on Facebooks end, there is NO fix until they change their code. Others have found "fixes" and they only worked temporarily and the problem returned. I myself have found the problem to come and go, but it happens the majority of the time. The ONLY way i've found to fix it, is to STOP using your ipad. I got SO sick of it, i stopped using my ipad, i only use my phone now.

12.9 iPad Pro, iOS 12.4.1. Issue is reproducible in Safari, DuckDuckGo, and Chrome browsers. Been an issue for months, and this is absolutely ridiculous. @Apple should be able to identify this problem and fix it — OR if it’s Facebook’s issue, they should put the pressure on FB to fix it.

I too am annoyed by the repeated words, but I have noticed with the spacing problem when you type you have the problem. Just ignore it and make the post and you will find that all the extra space has magically disappeared.

The thread helps explain to folks discovering what the issue is. There are one or two tips about brief temporary fixes. In theory it helps Facebook gather data on the bug. And finally - Apple could in fact look at the way Facebook is gathering data and handshaking with Apple's autocomplete and autocorrect system - because the two things are intertwined.

I absolutely agree that the primary issue lies with Facebook's implementation of the way its forms work on Safari on iPad but the thread is useful to people who don't know these things and have only just encountered it.

Facebook isn’t here, so if you want to make sure they know about the issue you. need to go to their help pages and report it.

It is how Facebook is coding their pages. THere is no user fix, Facebook has to change things...unless they like it this way and in that case users need to just get used to it or stop using Facebook.

For me its happening on iPad Pro 10.5 with Safari and Google Chrome, but only on comments, not at my posts. And only by facebook. It’s frustrating...

I have this problem too, although it doesn't happen every time. When it does, it happens throughout the post. Even stranger, when I share the post, it changes to single spaces - although others see it as double!

I am having the same problem. It just started recently. The double spacing was annoying enough but now it has started doubling I. It looks like ( iI ). It does not do it on any other letter. Only on I. I really hope someone has a solution to this.

Same thing here, but only when typing replies in Chrome for iPad. The pessimist in me speculates FB is intentionally effing with the UI to drive users off of browsers and onto the app, from where they can get much greater access to your data.

They’ve done this sort of thing before, intentionally altering the user experience for a select set of users and analyzing the results as a social engineering experiment, and without user knowledge or acceptance (except the licensing agreement no one reads). I think the 500 of us with this issue are unwitting lab rats.

They’ve also hidden the header icons in Chrome for iPhone when I’m outside the news feed. To go anywhere, like view my notifications or groups, I have to back my browser up to the FB home page. Can you say Evil Corp?

I've considered the same thing. I prefer using it in the browser rather than the app because I have more flexibility and slightly resent how the apps keep getting pushed no matter despite the thousand and one times I say no thanks.

Well it’s back. I posted earlier that I thought my double space problem was fixed after I upgraded my iOS to the newest version but last night it started happening again :( It was working properly for a couple of days after the update so I’m not sure why it’s happening again?

Oh my gosh I’ve been having problems with my Facebook on safari for five or six years now. It started with my iPad 2 so I upgraded to an iPad air 2. I assumed it was just all the different iOS updates and I thought eventually it would correct the problems. Mine started with my keyboard locking up and not being able to backspace to correct words. Gradually it just got worse. I went to the Apple store multiple times and they were of no help sadly. So for three more years I’ve been dealing with my iPad air 2 and thought it was just a glitch somewhere. Two weeks ago I bought the iPad Pro 11 inch and the problem carried over. Spent 3 1/2 hours yesterday at the Apple store and no one could figure out the problem. When I mentioned that I had not been able to find anyone else with the problem they did a Google and came up with this forum. How come I never found this before? Since the update to iOS 12.1.1 now I have been getting the double spacing and it also auto corrects and leaves incorrect words behind so I’m constantly having to fix everything I type. Auto punctuation isn’t working either most times. So they told me that I should use Chrome or Firefox but when they tried those browsers the same issues happen there as well. Bottom line they say it is Facebook not playing nice with Safari. Oh and they said I should use the Facebook app. I hate the Facebook app doesn’t work well when you run multiple groups. It’s not user-friendly in my opinion. And how come not everyone has this problem?

Just stinks that I just spent $800 for an iPad Pro that I cant use Safari and FB without major keyboard problems. I had enough of that with the iPad air2. I thought it would be different but now I get double spacing and double words. Don’t know if I should return it or not. .

I agree, it almost has to be a Facebook issue, because last night i was using www.facebook.com on my ipad and wasn't having any problems, then all of the sudden it started happening, right after it was working just fine? So frustrating.
