IPad double spacing in FaceBook posts

But for me my iPad Air 2 has been doing weird things right after I got it. The keyboard would lock up and not let me backspace to correct words. The double spacing and double words just started in the last week or two. Now my iPad pro is doing similar things. I hate having to use the FB app.

I have Safari browser on my iPad and it too is double spacing when typing comments in Facebook. It's very annoying and only started a few months ago. Before that, it worked fine. Wish Facebook would reply as it has only happens in their software.

Still happening to me. Looks fine as I type about 50% of the time, but always shows up wrong to everyone else. Only happens on Safari — iPad Pro 12 inch — Facebook.com and as others have noted, what’s the point of posting on these forums? Apple doesn’t care and I’m only happy that we didn’t get accused of making it up or causing it ourselves by the Apple brigaders who seem to delight in crapping up help requests.

It’s still happening and I suspect it’s Facebook scripting mishandling the browser, probably making some assumptions about Safari OSX or maybe different tablet formats. OS version 12.1.1 and it’s been happening for a while. I’ve tried reinstalling Safari as well as nuking cookies.

I just tried turning of Smart Punctuation and it did NOT work for me. I still have the on screen double spacing problem using Facebook on Chrome. As i stated earlier however, on my iPad at least, it appears to be an on screen glitch because if i ignore it and post the message that appears to have double spaces, once posted to FB it appears normally.

Oh, and I've never had Smart Punctuation turned on! I'm finding that it's something that comes and goes. Some posts to some groups behave normally, then the double-spacing returns at other times. It's infuriating!!

OK I take it back. To test, I posted and replied to my own post. The words posted correctly with a single space in between. However, when I reply to any post but my own, double-spaces appear between words.

Thanks PixelPshr this made me laugh, possibly because it is true rather than because it sounds ludicrous. I'm going to try it but I'm also going to try the smart punctuation tip just in case. It definitely seems to fit somewhere in iPad/Facebook.com/Forms/iOS typing behaviors.

The more mysterious aspect is the seemingly variable inconsistencies in what we see while typing, versus what's rendered for other users.

Has anyone tried seeing what two iPad users with the same problem and subjective inconsistencies - see while responding to each other and if there's any useful pattern or behavior there?

I found a work around solution for the double spacing on Facebook on another issues website. They said to hit shift+enter instead of just enter. It worked for me, although it’s annoying to remember to do that.

This has been happening to me on Facebook for a couple months on my iPad only. Not my iPhone. Also, autocorrect isn’t working and when I click on a suggested word, it doesn’t show up in my post. It’s super annoying. I end up having to go back and edit all my posts so I don’t look foolish.

Sadly FB won't change things, why would they? They want users to use the app i'm guessing, plus chances are very high they don't even know about this problem since this is an Apple forum. Even if they did know about it, they don't give a rats *** what us users want, if they did, then they'd stop constantly changing the layout of their site and how things get organized, etc.

As much as i hate the FB app for iPad, i'm about ready to start using it, because the double spacing between words is becoming unbearable. I prefer to use Chrome on my iPad because i like the ability to click on an image an do an instant google search for it, and the integration with gmail, etc. I'm holding onto hope that eventually FB will update something and this issue will be fixed, but that hope dwindles each day.

BUT, it's a very peculiar problem since it doesn't happen with all posts/comments. If you deliberately add multiple spaces then they are removed in the final post, as are these double spaces, however these annoying double spaces show up to other people!

I have had this problem forever. As you say, auto double spacing between words occurs when on iPad only, trying to comment on a post in Facebook only. Suggestions keep talking about System Preferences corrections. System Preferences is not available on an iPad using internal keyboard. You'd think someone from Apple would know how to fix this, but alas, 3-4 hours on a telecom with an Apple IT supervisor and my ongoing email vs. Appleid problem has not been solved.

I don’t trust Facebook. I think this is a deliberate overflow bug inserted by them to force people to go use their mobile app instead of via a third-Party browser where they have less control and less monetizing opportunity. Should be such a simple fix. Maybe Apple can fix it for them or disable their bug.

It's a relief to discover that it's not just me on my iPad, but it's still a pain. Yes, I could use their app, but I really don't like the way it's set up. I use FB with Safari on iPad, and not only do I get double spacing, although that doesn't appear on the message once posted, but also I'll get "dont don't want..." where it's autocorrecting for the apostrophe, or "i I" where it's autocorrecting the capital I. What a shame that there seems to be no solution to this!
