IPad double spacing in FaceBook posts

I had this problem once before and I don’t remember how it was corrected. I am thinking I caused it by hitting too many keys on the touch screen all at once. While in FaceBook, commenting on a post, as I type I get 2 spaces between words. This only happens in FaceBook, and only in posts. It is also limited to my IPads not my Android, and not on FaceBook mobile. It is not IOS specific or IPad specific. It does not matter which IPad I use, when signed in under my name it happens, under another name it does not happen. This leads me to believe it is a FaceBook/IPad setting issue. If I remember correctly I found a post that told me to press 2 keys and it fixed it. I don’t remember the keys or the post. Any helpful answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just bought a new Ipad(2018 version) and this has been happening since day 1. I just read a reply on here where someone said a Dutch keyboard was installed, he removed it and it fixed the issue. I didn’t have a Dutch keyboard installed, just QWERTY. There was an option for a Qwertz keyboard. I’d never heard of it but I switched to it and it fixed the FB problem! The only difference on the keyboard is the Y key is now where the Z Key was and Z is n the top row where Y was, hence the name QWERTZ. Might take me a bit to get used to my Y bent moved, but when I hit the z because I’m used to QWERTY keyboards, it autocorrects👌. I hope this helps someone because my FB posts looked awful.

I thought it was correcting itself, because when I post it looks normal. But someone in a group I moderate just asked “why do you double space all of your posts?” So apparently though it looks normal to me, it is messed up for everyone else! Strangely it also appears fine to me when I look at it on my computer. I had to turn off autocorrect because the double words were making me nuts.

Does anyone use the desktop version on their iPad? A while ago they apparently decided we should use the mobile version whether we wanted to or not. I managed to force it back to the desktop version, but I was wondering if that was the cause, and if it would be normal if using the mobile version.

Most of us experiencing the issue seem to be using Desktop browser mode, specifically on ipad – and so far on all conventional HTML browsers Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Dolphin etc.

I haven’t used mobile web mode because I don’t like the UI or reduced functionality – and I absolutely detest the App(s). I am only interested in Facebook messages as a private channel for Facebook friends and removing it from the browser actually

creates a sorting problem in that regard, much as decontextualizing Xbox Live messages might for a game player.

I use the desktop version on my iPad. I noticed a few months ago that if I try to open a FB link in a new Safari tab from within FB (like someone's profile, a link to another thread from notifications, etc.) rather than clicking through on the current tab, then it will open the new tab in mobile instead of desktop. It's irritating because usually I do that when I want to send a FB link (thread, post, video, whatever) to someone else or read what's at the link later and half the time, the mobile page screws up the presentation/formatting. Sometimes the desktop version will also reload into the mobile version when I go back to look at a FB page I had left open.

Also, a general pox upon websites that automatically put me into mobile version when I'm using my iPad with no link back to the desktop version. All that screen real estate on the iPad, I'd rather take full advantage.

Double-spacing affected by autocorrect? That’s very interesting BSDPWS, mainly as I have been thinking for some time that autocorrect is more trouble than it is worth!

My spelling really isn’t so bad. I do check my typing as I go along, and usually proofread it at the end. No problem! Autocorrect changing things I don’t want changed? BIG PROBLEM! Particularly as I sometimes get creative with language, modifying words whether for comic effect or to add additional meaning. So come on everyone, let’s ditch autocorrect!

But, BSDPWS, I’m unsure what you mean re ipad correct v. autocorrect, can you clarify please? Thanks!

Safari will appear to remove multiple spaces, as will some other browsers, so when you press the enter key, even on its own, you will no longer see the double spaces. Unfortunately they are still there, as looking at the raw data will show. That means that some people, running Android on a mobile phone for example, will still see them.

Not sure what you mean, Facebook is creating double spaces AND allowing them to be posted. Some BROWSERS remove double spaces when you post - but they are still there in the original message and can be seen by some platforms (like Android on a mobile). I have had several comments asking me why I always use double spacing when I post.

The facebook mobile app “s-t-i-n-k-s” dog doo.... especially when viewing on an iPad. I want the full site experience.. bad enough even the full site experience constantly tries to flip to mobile mode on the apple ipad, with no way to turn off the apple iPad from sending web servers, hey i am mobile device give me the crappy mobile pages.

I think your workaround is a bit of work. My solution is to go back to using the app. I’m beginning to think Facebook either knows about the bug and they don’t care or they did it on purpose because they want people using their app. Think about it. A big social media company is going to test their app and website on every platform. So, you know they know about this.
