Geotagging in iPhoto: tricks to enable Google Maps don't work again

I'm referring to the old discussion Re: iPhoto 11 - Problems With Photo Locations where the users of those versions of iPhoto that used Google Maps before Apple-Google deal expiration in mid2015 were able through creating Googles API keys to regain the ability to view locations. However it has stopped working recently. Since I bookmarked this thread I returned and tried to repeat all the steps - I generated API (Google Maps Javascript API) but it didn't help. Has anybody faced the issue or is it no longer actual for you?

The API keys seem no longer to work. I cannot use my old API key either any longer. am seeing the same problem in other applications too, that are using Google Maps, for example "Jet Photo Pro" is now giving strange warnings, when I am trying to tag photos on a map. This has been starting a few month ago. The Google Maps are giving a warning "For development purposes only":

That is reassuring. I am planning to switch to HoudahGeo sooner or later, but right now it does not seem to be able to handle HEIC photos. I waiting for an update.

Graphic Converter 10 can also access Google Maps and Google Earth.

The MyTracks.app does not use Google at all, only these maps:

But they do not show the contour lines, like the old iPhoto maps did.

Apparently I haven't launched the app I mentioned earlier in a long time because now I don't even see "For development purposes only", that's what it shows instead. I should see locations but I don't.

Big corps are only about money. Small developers is going to drop out of business one by one and the movement is towards monopolizing social networking market in favor of services driven behemoths like Google and Twitter (with the latter conducting the great midAugust Purge of its "old" APIs in effect bringing an end to or degrading functionality of 3rd prt twitter clients). Infuriating.

Thank you very much for such prompt response. I read the bottom link and enabled billing when creating the new API. Don't know if that could potentially make any difference but I removed other API keys I created 2.5 years ago for iPhoto and Aperture separately deeming these unusable anyway. After saving my changes a line at the bottom of the API settings appeared telling me that it usually takes "up to 5 minutes for the changes to take effect" or smth along the lines of that. I launched iPhoto and nothing. I copy-pasted that example snippet of code with my API key inserted in googleMap.html file. Maybe these changes haven't been enforced yet. There was optional parameter "HTTP referrers". I ignored it since (1) it was optional (2) I don't understand what website is needed if it's an application that calls the API. I don't know.
