Since installing High Sierra yesterday I am having a mountain of problems.
I just noticed that when I click on Textedit in my application folder, it instead opens my finder window. I will post a photo. When I go to "get information" there is no place to put "open with". I wonder if my system software is totally corrupted.
Here is the photo. I could sure use some help.

Yes, launching TextEdit from your Applications folder would open that window. If you want to open a specific document choose your Documents folder, choose the Document and click on Open. Or double-click on the document.
Nice solution db! I never realized it was iCloud Drive. I just tested that on my TE which was in iCloud Drive. After unchecking it, now opens to blank Document from the Applications folder/Dock. Is that correct? And if I go to TE menu > File > Open, I again get the window from before?
FWIW, if you uncheck TextEdit, it won't open that window anymore.
Open System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Options… uncheck TextEdit.

Thanks. I re-check marked TE on iCloud Drive. I like it better that way, probably just cause that's what I'm used to. I don't open my docs that way anyhow.
