Itunes is not reading Iphone

My Imac (late 2013) had the OX X Yosemite (version 10.10.5). Everything was working fine till a few days ago when i connected my iphone itunes gave me the following msg:


"To use your iPhone with iTunes, you need to install OS X 10.11.4 (or later)."


everything is up to date as per app store... can anyone help me fix this issue.

iOS 12 requires iTunes 12.8 or better, running on OS X 10.11.4 or better. Looking at the compatibility requirements shown in How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support you should be able to update your Mac.
