Hello britonfromkampala,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use some specific keys on your MacBook Pro in the Text Edit app. To help with your issue, go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Options and remove the checkmark next to "Press the Option key five times to toggle Mouse Keys". Then click OK and then remove the checkmark next to "Enable Mouse Keys" and test your issue again.

That set of keys represents the "embedded" numeric keypad on a Mac that does not have its own discrete keys for the keypad.

When this nugget of information is added to what MoonJ posted, you can see that you have likely activated some numeric keypad special feature, and turning it off in Accessibility will make sense.
