wi-fi has the self-assigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet

I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro (mid 2012) running High Sierra 10.13.6 to a new wireless wifi network at my new apartment and am running into the issue of "wi-fi has the self-assigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet"

I have tried what I could find online including deleting files:

Com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

Com.apple.alf.plist

NetworkInterfaces.plist

... then restarting computer and router

and going to "Network > Wifi > Advanced > TCP/IP > Renew DHCP"

and reseting the modum and router

But neither of those are working.

My computer specs:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 10 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

2 more things to try...

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

1. It did still have the same issue inside of a new user account.

Here's the report...

Remove the network settings completely and then again set it up see this article How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity - Apple Support

if this doesn't work , first try to test in new user test account How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

If all of these methods fails then its better to install os How to upgrade to macOS Mojave - Apple Support
