Are my earphones not working due to water damage?

I think my phone may have some water damage so when I plug my earphones in the sound plays as if the earphones aren’t in.

Hi brxgxn,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you have a question about some possible water damage.

If your iPhone has been exposed to any water or liquid, that is a possibility. A good way to test is to try connecting the same earphones to another device. Do they work there? That would help tell you if the earphones themselves may be the issue.

You might also try connecting another set of earphones to your iPhone. If you have the same result with another set, that would indicate the port is the issue.

You'll find a few great steps here If your headphones don't work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch :

Check for debris, damage, or loose connections

  1. Check for debris in the headphone port on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
  2. Check your headphone cable, connector, remote, and earbuds for damage, like wear or breakage.
  3. Look for debris on the meshes in each earbud. To remove debris, gently brush all openings with a small, soft-bristled brush that's clean and dry.
  4. Firmly plug your headphones back in. If your iOS device has a case, remove the case to get a firm connection.

I hope this helps you. If you experience the same result after following the steps above, that's when I recommend getting in touch with Apple: Contact Apple Support

Have a great day.
