Why does Mac book pro sometimes show fault on safari ‘unable to connect as couldn’t find a secure server although it’s a legitimate site? Accepts other sites

Mac book pro safari sometimes comes up with fault ‘ cant connect to site as can’t find secure server’ although it’s a legitimate site, connect ok to other sites

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.4

This message indicates the webpage is on a server that doesn't meet secure cryptographic standards. Learn more here:

If Safari says it can't establish a secure connection, or the website is using weak encryption - Apple Support

Actually, you almost hit the nail on the head. If the clock/date on your MacBook is off by a significant margin, it can cause the security certificates of the sites you are attempting to access to appear to not work. Safari can then throw off the error you are seeing, while everything on your end appears fine. I would check your date/time to eliminate this as a possible cause.
