update apple ID settings

I have an iphone 6 with latest OS. As my Internet Service provider changed names my old AppleID (***) was changed (***) and became defunct and longer exists. Since then and currently the iPhone works just fine.

About a week or two ago a settings notification appeared for Update Apple ID settings and when I checked it it says

Update Apple ID Settings

Some account services require you to sign in again.

When I press the Continue button it asks for the the password, but for the old AppleID (***), which no longer exists. I understand that whilst it no longer physically exists it is retained by apple in the records.

My iPhone is not locked and runs happily on the new appleID but no matter what I do I am unable to remove the notification. I am also unable to recreate as the IS provider no longer exists. I also restored factory settings and restored old backup and this too did not work. Also the e-mail address is not listed as one of my preffered e-mail addresses.

Please advise how I may remove the notification ?

Hi Eric,

Many thanks. Yes I have latest OS and I think it started when I downloaded latest version. The notification appears under the iPhone settings as shown below;

User uploaded file

When I select it asks to update my Apple ID Settings for my old deleted and non existent AppleID.

Other than that the iPhone works fine with my current AppleID just that I am unable to get the of the notification.

I have tried resetting to factory settings, restoring and logging in and out of iCloud none of which helped.

So it appears to be a bug which Apple need to resolve. It appears somewhere in the Apple ETHER it has record of my old AppleID and somehow think sit is still active. When one does a search for the old AppleID it says it does not exist so it must be searching the saved records, which I understand Apple do not / never delete or retain.

Cheers

If you are using IOS 12, I read a post several days ago where someone posted they had talked to Apple Support about this and were told it is a known bug that Apple is trying to correct. If you click Cancel, does the window go away? You can also try signing out of iCloud and back in which has worked for some people. You may not be able to remove the notification.
