My Apple Tv 4K not providing the Dolby Atmos Sound.

I have Recently connected my New Apple Tv 4K with My Denon AVR-X3400H receiver with High speed belkin HDMI cable ( Recommended by apple). Updated Software in both Devices. Set the Apple Tv Adudio format to Dolby atmos. I have 5.1.2 Dolby atmos set up ( two SVS prime elevation speaker as a dolby Speaker, Samsung HU9000 4K Tv, B&W MT50 Home heater Speakers & B&W ASW 608 subwoofer for 5.1 setup). tried all the possible options to get the dolby atmos sound but could not get that. The info of apple Tv & Denon AV receiver do not show any Dolby atmos logo while playing 'Fantastic Beasts" in apple Tv. Even not a single Trailer in Apple Tv Produces Dolby Atoms sound. Can any one suggest what are the remedies for this trouble.

You will have to connect the Apple TV directly the to the AV receiver by HDMI – not to the TV, as Dolby Atmos from Apple TV requires more bandwidth than ARC can offer. “Most televisions don’t support Dolby Atmos pass-through to sound bars and receivers,” and “Apple TV 4K uses a high bandwidth form of Dolby Atmos that doesn’t work over ARC connections. [1]

Maybe you have done so, but it is not in your setup description.

Don’t go by trailers, as there is no rule that the trailer AV quality will match the feature film. It can match, but it doesn’t have to.

Dolby Atmos may not be available for alternate languages. Likely only for the primary (original) language audio track.

Glad to hear it man!

FYI... I took back my Onkyo NR-787 and upgraded to the Pioneer LX-503 Elite and when I did that Dolby Atmos automatically worked with ever iTunes movies "rented & purchased"!!! With the exact same setup as the Onkyo.

Onkyo and Pioneer are made by the same manufacturer so it makes no sense to me how compatibility works in odd scenarios such as this. Geek squad was just as perplexed as to why these settings work for the 4k Apple TV...

All I know is I got a better receiver and now I get Dolby Atmos in every format that is offered via 4k Apple TV.

I've heard great things about the Sony STR-DN1080. However one audio specialists at Best Buy said they may tend to run a little hot. Does yours?

Lastly, just curious, with your Sony were you able to access Dolby Atmos via "Vudu, Netflix, and iTunes"?

Yes, my Sony gets a little hot but no problem, its cold in Norway. The fix worked, now Netflix and iTunes show the ATMOS logo on compatible films.

" Dolby Atmos worked when Quick Start is turned from on to off and back on, in Settings. To check, go to Settings > Apps > iTunes Movies and TV Shows > Quick Start. Then restart Apple TV."

Good to know that another receiver like your Sony will work for all Atmos apps.

I remember reading a full article on your Sony receiver but it was posted in 2018 and was never updated before Atmos was compatible with 4K Apple TV so I didn't get it.

I also did not toggle back and forth with quick start and then reset Apple TV. I just made sure that it was turned on as well as Auto description off etc.

I guess I should have read the Dolby Atmos page on Apple support better.

Thanks for the specific QuickStart info! Glad to know we're both on the other side of it.

Very helpful post. Thank you. Bummer iTunes isn't working with the Onkyo.

I can go back and review the thread, but is ARC a show stopper? If so, do I simply run my Apple TV 4K through HDMI 1+?

75" Class Q8FN QLED

Onkyo 2018 Receiver (not sure of the mode, but it supports Dolby Vision and Atmos)

Hopefully Onkyo has a firmware fix, if I can't get it to work with iTunes. Otherwise, I think I'm stuck.
