Problems with Apple earbud jack adapter
I'm wondering whether anyone has experienced this problem and has a solution to it:
This question/discussion is sparked by a previous question/discussion (Siri/Voice Control Constantly Activating By Itself?)
I've had many issues with Apple's earbud jack adapters. After using an adapter for a while I find the connection becomes a bit loose and the earbuds start making my phone do things I don't want it do when the connection to the adapter is bumped or jiggled.
One of the things it does is to turn on Voice Control if I hold the Play button a microsecond too long, even when Voice Control is turned off in Settings. (This relates to the discussion linked to above.)
Other things a loose-connector jack does includes:
* starts playing music if bumped or jiggled slightly (even when I haven't played music recently)
* starts podcasts at random
* makes a podcast I'm listening to stop, start, skip forwards/backwards or skip to the next podcast
As you can imagine, this is infuriating.
My phone is always in my pocket with the earbuds attached by a jack (because I'm always listening to podcasts or the radio (I'm a news junkie.) I've seemed to work out that (as I hinted above) slight bumping or jiggling of the adapter is what causes these unwanted actions. I've bought more than 10 of the jack adapters and although the problem disappears at first, these issues always start happening again.
My conclusion: the jack adapters are very poor quality and Apple needs better production standards.
I've spent far too much money buying new adapters. A dumb decision to remove the old jack connection from the iPhone is compounded by this crap workaround.
Too much of Apple's reputation for quality and smart, useful design has slipped too far. (Don't get me started on the new MacBook Pro!)
What a shame.
