Why do PDFs I placed iBooks open in Preview? How can I change so that they open as a PDF?

Preview is the default pdf reader. On a Mac iBooks is basically an app in which to store your pdfs, unlike an iOS device where pdfs open within it.

Is it possible to change the default reader?
It can be changed it to another pdf reader app, but not iBooks.
