2018 MacMini user login not recognized

Hi Guys,

Just got a 2018 Mac Mini and tried to do the initial setup. It has 10.14.0 preinstalled. I created the administrator account during the initial setup.

Next step was to create a standard user account and tried to log in with it. It won’t recognize the password and I cannot log in.

The administrator account works ok, no problem.

Created several standard user accounts, but I cannot log in in any of them except the administrator account created during initial installation.

More frustrating, I enabled SSH and I can log in from my iPad at command line in all the accounts I created without any problem!!

I upgraded to the 10.14.1 from the app store, but it did not fix the problem, no password is recognized for any account except the one created during initial setup.

Any idea how to fix this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

Luis, thanks for help. I checked the keyboards layouts as you mentioned and replaced the keys with the same location keys on the German one. Than I could log in.

I noticed the admin password I was using, just lucky, had same characters on the German and US keyboards, it did not matter what keyboard I use.

It seems the German layout is still hanging in some system file and is used when logging in even if I deleted from System Preferences / Keyboards. Mojave is switching to the US keyboard only after logging in.

I am thinking that there may be a mismatch in the passwords because of the different layouts.

It is funny, though, that the one you created with the German layout is the one that works.

It does not seem to make any sense that now, using the same layout all the time, it is not working. Mystery.

There are not many keys that differ between the US and German layouts.

Try creating a new user in such a way that the password only uses characters that are in the same locations in both - does that work?

I am using the same keyboard to try to log in with the keyboard used to create the user and set the password, (Logitech K380, US layout).

The right screen corner shows also US.

But, during initial setup, the Mac did not recognize the Logitech bluetooth keyboard and I used an USB attached keyboard with German layout. After I succeeded to connect the Logitech, I deleted the German keyboard from the System Preferences and set it to US. Maybe this was not enough?
