Magic Mouse issues on Mac Mini 2018?

I have been using the Mac Mini 2012 with macOS Mojave since it was released. Then I ordered the Mac Mini 2018 and since I have been using that computer with my Magic Mouse - it keeps "lagging" when using it. It moves slowly etc. If I then disconnect the mouse and connect again it is gone, then after some time it starts to do it again...

Anyone with the same experience that know how to fix it?

Thanks.

I had the issue - early Magic Mouse (with batteries - not sure if 1 or 2) and a Mac mini 2018. I had a cheap 7-port active USB-3 hub plugged in with my UPS, an external HDD and Wacom tablet attached. Did all the usual - reset PRAM & SMC, reset Bluetooth controller - nothing.

While I was waiting for Apple support I found this thread and unplugged the hub - instantly fixed. Now have my USB devices attached via a passive USB-to multiport adapter that was cheap on Amazon (I bought it for reading SD cards on my iPad as it cost a fraction of the Apple adapter).

Clearly Apple have not done enough susceptibility testing on the Mac mini and what annoys me is that they drag through hours of useless attempts at 'fixing' the issue when they (should) know very well what the issue is from threads like this. As soon as I told the tech I had fixed the problem myself, all he was interested in doing was using my time to gather data on my setup for his logs....

I wish Apple would be more honest with their customers - my Mac mini is still within the return window - not sure I want to risk this occurring again - think it's going back to Apple - those NUC PC's look good - same performance, open architecture and half the price.....

Follow-up to my previous comment. I got the new usb-c hub, hoping it would solve the lag problem with the magic mouse, but it hasn't. I will say that things have gotten slightly better but it definitely didn't totally get rid of the problem. I'm still getting lag - it's not constant, but it comes and goes....and it's really frustrating.

I've wanted a Mac Mini for years, finally got one and it's almost unusable at times. I hope something can be done

Not a bad suggestion for those looking for a new mouse, but for those that bought a new Magic Mouse to work with their new Mac Mini it's frustrating to experience such lag among products that should just work together.

I also agree that the Magic Mouse tends to go dead at all the wrong times (not their fault, I just forget that I have to recharge it). But I do wish the charging port wasn't on the bottom - if it were on the front you could at least use it as a wired mouse while it's charging...as it stands, all works comes to a halt once the battery dies.

Oh yes. I've had it into the Apple store, and as a developer I submitted lots of files.

The significant other reverted to her cheapo 5 year old Logitech mouse and gave me her Magic Mouse.

I now have 4 mice, and some days I have to juggle all four to keep using the comp:

1 Magic Mouse 2.

1 Magic Mouse 1

1 Mighty Mouse USB

1 Logitech Wireless.

On some days, I rotate through all four.

2018 Minis SUCK.

So does Apple.

USB 3 is "noisier" than USB 2 and 1) on the mini the BlueTooth antenna is in the back corner near the USB ports. 2) drive manufacturers cheap out on their USB 3 cables and external shielding. You see the results. There are a number of things you can try. At work I moved my USB 3 hub to the other side of the computer and purchased a shielded USB 3 cable for connecting the hub to the computer. (The USB 3 cable has a braided metal shield. I don't recall the manufacturer of the cable but I found it at an office supply store.) My 2018 mini doesn't (I should say didn't) get along with the external SSD I use. SSDs are also 'noisy' it seems. I fashioned a shield out of tin foil and that solved it.

I've been using wired keyboard and mouse to work around this problem. I wonder, among those who are having this issue, what is the closest other WiFi device?

My monitor is a TV set which is WiFi-enabled. It's a few inches from the MacMini. A WiFi printer is a few feet away.

Just a reminder - cell phones are a potent source of RF which could act as a jammer. I learned a while ago to keep my cell phone away from the mouse. Of course, it depends on which phone, which mouse, etc., but it *can* be a problem.

None of this absolves Apple of responsibility to make this problem go away.
