iPhone X max problem with facial recognition

Just got my iPhone X max home and tried to set up my facial recogination and will not work! What can I do to fix this problem?

Facial recognition iPhone XR For some reason my facial recognition stopped working. When I went to settings it looks as if it were never set up. When I tried to set up again it keeps saying “lower iPhone”, when I lower the it either goes immediately to raise iPhone, or I can lower it till my face isn’t even in it at all and still says lower iPhone. It does the same thing when it says raise iPhone. Either I can raise till my face isn’t even in the frame or goes right to lower iPhone.

What happens when you try? Do you see an error, or is something else appearing on the screen? If you see an error, what is the exact text of that error?
