sync iPhone with iTunes

Is there a problem with backing up iPhones with new OS mojave? I had no problem before updating to this operating system. Since I get the error message sync session failed to start. I have tried different cables, made sure all software is up to date and carried out some maintenance as suggested on the internet after lengthy searches on the subject. Is there a solution to this problem?

Thanks for your reply to my problem, I have tried all those things I am using an iMac with Mojave 10.14.1 and a lot of the info seem to be referring to windows computers however I have removed ESET cyber security, which had not interfered in the past as I have always been able to sync and backup my iPhone to iTunes before installing Mojave OS 10.14 and the phone on iOS 12.1 So at the moment no resolution to the sync failure There does not seem to be any error messages apart from "sync session failed to start" which I have looked up in google searches.
