Dell U4919DW / MacBook pro 5k issue

I upgraded my Macbook Pro 15'' 2019 to Catalina too, and I am NOT able to see any difference when choosing 5120*1440 between the app SwitchResx and the native settings. However, when I clicked the Apple icon of the laptop attempting to see

the display info., it shows me that the resolution is still 3840*1440. My external monitor is LG 49 inches supporting 5120*1440 though.

Hi, could you any one tell me if it's normal that Apple shows that the resolution is 3840*1080 on my LG 49WL95C monitor, although I have set the resolution to 5120 * 1440 on SwitchResX at my laptop Macbook Pro 2019 15 inches? My monitor supports

5120*1440, but I am confused that why the info. from the apple icon does not displays this level of the resolution.

CAUTION:

Readers are reporting different results between the 13-in and '15-in Dual Graphics' models.

Be sure any statement you make takes into account these different results, and is not over-generalizing.

I have 13" Macbook Pro Early 2015 model. In PBP mode, the section connected to MiniDisplayPort1 or HDMI (left side of picture shown below) is always showing shrunk in size i.e. not full size.

Section connected to MiniDisplayPort2 (right side of picture shown below) is showing proper size. I have tried connecting MiniDisplayPort 1 to HDMI and DP on monitor but no luck.

I tried connecting MiniDisplayPort1 and HDMI port to another Samsung 27" 1440 monitor and it works fine. Looks like issue is with Dell monitor only.

Anyone faced this problem?

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro 13. I have tested samsung c49RG90 and c49HG90. Both are not working.

But c49HG90 is better solution. But still not happy with it.

I am looking for U4919DW now. it seems not working properly as you all said. ****.

Anybody knows if Macbook 15 inchi works?

The MacOS supports 5120 x 2880 but not 5120 x 1440. Simple as that.

It is well within it's capabilities so let's continuously send the requests in until someone takes note and it is done.

Not listed in the scaled resolutions...

I opened the override file that joevt mentioned above and see the following in that file...

I don't have the slightest idea what any of that means, or whether I can/should edit it.

You guys got me again!!!! Just when I thought Apple fixed this problem, they didn't Yes, it's 5120x1440, it's scaled!!! It's not a native resolution. It looks horrible. So now I gotta put that cable back.

I'll confess that I'm a bit nervous to start editing that type of information when I know nothing about using scripts or editing system files. I'm afraid I'd make a mistake and not know how to fix it.

Has anyone successfully implemented joevt's instructions so that the U4919DW works at full resolution? A success story would be helpful to see before I try and implement.

Nope, still no fix for the U4919DW. My MacBook air is still announcin 3840x1080 as the highest possible resolution for the monitor. So if I understand it correctly the LG Monitor wit the resolution of 5120x1440 is working for the Dedicated graphic card models as for the onboard graphic cards too?

@joevt: Do you have a small manual how to use your script? Maybe I can try it.

Are you getting this resolution with a MAC MINI???? or are you getting this resolution with a MBP 15/16". This thread is for issues with the Mac Mini (intel GPU). If you are talking about this on a MBP 15 / 16 please post to a different thread!!!

I think you are right it started as as a mbp discussion but others with other macs have joined in.

it would be helpful though if you could tell us if your mbp is a 13 ie intel graphics only or a 15 ie also has amd card

Did you redo your SwitchResX settings? Maybe they got overwritten? SwitchResX has separate preferences that are not stored in the Overrides folder.

To be clear, what was the model of the old Mac and new Mac? You're still connecting the display to the eGPU?

What version of macOS are they running?

the Dell is connected to the left port of the two available ones on the left side. So the one thats closest to the MacBook Air display.

I'll send you the Diagnose in a few minutes. At the moment I installed and booted Windows again to show you the GPU-Z Output.

Under Windows. And I am able to set different resolutions and refresh rates in the Intel GPU Settings.

Your personal experience is not different. It is not working. You are just using a workaround! I don't want to use two cables to use my monitor, one has to be enough!

And that is the problem that Apple and no other, needs to fix! Adapt the OS to support 5120x1440.

You are using 2560x1440 twice.

If you try Bootcamp with Windows or Linux nativley on your macbook you will be able to use your display with one cable and nothing else!
