I can’t text android users on my iPod touch

I wanted to text a family member who has an android phone, I’m not sure if it had mms or sms, but I typed their number, and it sais they’re not registered with iMessage. I think, ok, green bubbles don’t hurt. But, when you’re texting mms or sms the send button turns green, like the bubbles. It stayed blue, and the button wouldn’t work. I retried over and over, still nothing. I removed their name, so it looked like I wasn’t texting anyone, and the button turned green, like it should. I put their name back in, and it turned blue again! I didn’t know what to do, so I made this so I could figure it out.

I went into settings. I went to messages. I did not see 'send an SMS' anywhere. I am on an iPod Touch. I also have an iPad (4th Gen). Can I set this up on my iPod (and more detail on how) or could I turn it on (if it's there) on my iPad and have it work on my iPod. I have a picture of the 'send an SMS' option not being there.User uploaded fileI would really like to see some green bubbles (and text android users).

Not in an iPad , either. It works same as iPod that iMessage is for Apple users.

you can download Text me which give you a phone #. After about 500 texts/ call they charge between 1.99 and 4.99 a mo. but you can text to anyone. You also can place telephone call and talk, as wel, as text. You can send photos, too.

Check compatible with your iOS. It works fir iOS 12.1 not sure if lower than thet.

Hello CARSON_SUPPORTS_YOU,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you've had some trouble sending messages to Android users, and I have some information that may help.

If you have not already, you'll want to be sure that you have SMS messaging turned on. To do so, you can go to Settings > Messages >Send as SMS.

If the trouble continues, Have a look at the article below for some additional troubleshooting steps.
