How do I text to a 5 digit number?

I'm so annoyed right now. I need to text to 5 digit number to register a product. It's not a phone number.

But iOS keeps adding this stupid dash after the 2nd digit so then it fails to send. I want to send to 71403 instead of 71-403

I can't believe how hard it is to do this simple thing.
