How to tell if Mac is water damaged

Spilt water on MacBook this morning, dried water off, laptop was working fine after. Went out for a couple hours and have now come home to find it’s not turning on at all. I’ve turned it upside down to try and dry it out a bit more. Anyone know if there’s anything else I can do or is it a lost cause?
