mcOS mojave desktop files no longer stackable?

So now that Stacks has been introduced we're no longer able to stack files on top of each other?

I'd like to stack a number of screenshots or other files but every time I click and drag, it bounces back to insist that each file has some sort of perimeter that can't be bumped.

I would use Stacks if I could select the files I wanted to stack but, alas, not what they built.

Any workaround?

Are there any other posts like this? I couldn't find any but this is really frustrating and I would love to insist that this be reconsidered in any forum. I literally have stacks of files on my desktop but they're from before the install.

I don't appreciate this sort of restriction... The should at least make Stacks something you can truly customize beyond the current filters... like selections!
