Why do my video recordings freeze on iPhone XR?

My video recordings freeze while I am recording using the native camera app. Currently using a brand new iPhone XR running iOS 12.1.


Tried multiple times with the same result.

I also had this problem. Even after my phone updated, so I made and appointment after trying to take to apple through the phone to fix it. And they said it happened because of my old sd card or something with how I transferred the info from my old phone to m new phone made a glitch. They reset my phone and after a couple of months nothing happened yet with it. Go to the apple store in person and get a diagnosis on the device.

Now I have fixed this issue. Only way: install your device manually, don't (don't !!) restore it from iTunes or iCloud!


1) Make a factory reset

2) Install iPhone as new iPhone (Again: Don't restore phone via iTunes or iCloud! I am sure this is the reason of the problem)

3) Get your data (contacts, photos, calendar etc.) by using your Apple-ID

4) get your apps from the app store

5) load you music from the cloud

6) make your settings

7) enjoy making great videos again


Not cool but I works. Has Apple been bought by Microsoft?

iPhone XR - iOS 12.1.2 . Same issue , it freeze sometimes I can record up to 20mins and sometimes barely 2mins it freeze . I tried some experiments, theres 1recording reach up to 1hour but its a static recording and just few movements , and another using other app than apple camera app it does work but I noticed the video record from the app doesnt activate the image stabilization . I think it is software bug in the iOS.

I encourage all that are facing this annoyance to contact apple support via Twitter @AppleSupport and inform of this.


I have already reported this to them, and they requested me to test by doing a factory reset, and test the app without restoring my iCloud backup. I have not been able to do that since I’ve a LOT of pending videos to further edit and work on. And also I have my work VPN token Installed.


But as almost all are commenting in this post, this seems to be an iOS bug.


I’ve even referred to them this thread.


So would be great if all of us that are facing this problem contact them and also refer this thread.


I don’t know if the upcoming iOS 12.1.3 will fix this.

Same problem in XS. No pattern. No idea what it is. With backup from iPhone 6 restored and installed since zero it happens the same. Reset. Soft reset and everything keeps the same way. It seems to be a software bug. Please apple!!! Listen us and release a new version.


@@admins: please change the post tittle to XR/XS. By now both models seem to be affected.

Hi, I have the same exact problem. I have an iPhone XR 256GB with the latest stable iOS 12.1.2.


is very annoying since I do a lot of video recording, and on a random basis while recording a video suddenly the image remains still and after a second or two the native camera app freezes and the video stops recording.


I have to close the camera app and open it again.


The video recorded that suffered this problem plays well but the last 2 or 3 seconds have a still image and the sound is still played on those last 2 or 3 seconds.


I first thought it was a bug that happened if the camera app was launched via the lock screen, so I decided to first unlock my iPhone and then launch the camera app, but the problem is still there.


after doing a factory reset and an iCloud backup restore, the problem is still there. Even resetting my iPhone is not fixing this issue.


I decided to contact apple support via twitter and they suggest for me to do a factory reset and that before doing my iCloud restore, to test recording videos. I explained to them that doing this will take some time, since I have a lot of recording videos that need to edit and pass to my computer.


I asked apple support in Twitter if they have not heard of other users with the same users, because perhaps it is a known bug, and they replied saying they have not heard of any other user with the same problem.


So, by searching the web I found this post and decided to reply and will also pass this post to apple support on Twitter, because if this annoying bug is also present at an iPhone XS then probably is a major bug that need investigation from apple.

I'm having video problems with my XR. They are different from yours, but i just wanted to say that they told me the same thing about there being "no reported issues" concerning video problems. So annoying!!!! After the suggested (generic default suggestions) of power cycling, restore, and complete reset were given to me by "support", I've ended up with just having to go to a store and hope for help from the genius bar.
