Uploading videos to iPhoto on desktop from iphone

I recently broke my iPhone X and had to get a new phone. Fortunately, everything (photos and video) was backed up to the icloud. Only photos from my iPhone were auto uploaded to my iPhoto on my iMac desktop but my videos didn't back up to my iPhoto. Right now, my desktop holds all of my images and videos and thats where i want all of my videos too. I have done my research and know that i can do the iCloud photo storage but would have to purchase a monthly storage plan and I don't want to do that. When I plug my phone into my computer via usb it doesn't show any of my videos to import. It's like iPhoto doesn't recognize they are there. I have 1,021 videos that are on the cloud that haven't been backed up to my desktop. So far, I have managed to bring all my iCloud photos and videos on to my new iPhone, but my iPhoto still doesn't see the videos on my phone. How can I do this in the most simplest way possible?
