Scammer gained access to my machine I was having problems with my printer, so I went to a website to find a driver for the printer and started to search for the driver. I got a pop up messaging app asking if I wanted help. I messaged with them back and forth and they asked me to install the "Support - LogMeInRescue" app which I did. They then asked for access to my machine through that app and proceeded to look over my machine. I became concerned when she opened System Information on the my Mac Mini and then went to Software > Logs > WiFi log where she lingered over the information there for a while. I asked why she was not looking at one of the Printer Logs instead and then asked her to confirm she is affiliated with the printer manufacturer as I was getting suspicious. She responded that they are independent tech support and then disconnected. My question is whether I should be concerned? She did not install anything or have time to do anything else other than look at the "About This Mac" screen and the WiFi log (as far as I could tell). [Link Edited by Moderator]

mac airbook hijacked I was configuring an epson printer I had just purchased and wrote in the search bar epson.com thinking I could find where to download drivers, but to my surprise all of a sudden a popup saying your computer has been blocked call apple support for assistance I called and rapidly noticed the tech had an indian accent and heard other people in the back ground speaking Indian also it came to my mind this was the scam where they hijack your computer to ask for money the computer was sounding some loud tone which made hearing the scammer difficult so he had me press certain keys to turn the noise off so far so good then he asked me to write in the search bar a certain url address I told him I could not, that my screen was frozen and had no control over mouse or track pad once he unfroze my mac and I regained access I turned my wifi off and hung up, in the afternoon I activated my wifi and downloaded and paid for a antivirus with ransomware protection. So far for my belief that macs were un hackable. Beware never say never keep your mac safe a good antivirus is always welcome.

I was told I have a csrss.exe trojan on my Mac and need to buy Norton I've been having problems with my HP printer that's attached to network. So I called HP and they entered my computer remotely and found a trojan in my network. He said the only way to get rid of it was to buy an expensive Norton anti virus. Am I being scammed?

Your best bet is to install an antivirus like Malwarebytes and do a full scan of your Mac. Hopefully Malwarebytes will find and delete any rootkits the scammer may have installed onto your Mac.

To be really safe, boot to Recovery and format drive and do a fresh install of Mac OS.
