older gen of apple tv
I have an older generation of Apple tv and am looking to update the software. Is it possible? What are the steps to do so?

These are the latest software versions per older device model:
Apple TV (1st generation): Apple TV Software 3.0.2 (per 2010-02-11)
Apple TV (2nd generation): Apple TV Software 6.2.1 (per 2014-09-17)
Apple TV (3rd generation): Apple TV Software 7.2.2 (per 2016-12-12)
By using the internal Update Software function, you should be able to get the latest version for your model, or set it to update automatically (Settings﹥General﹥Update Software).

Only the newer models can get the latest release version (tvOS 12.1).
