From address is not one of your addresses

I have been happily using my me.com email address for years. I have not changed any settings. Suddenly when I try to send an email I am getting the following message "From address is not one of your addresses". Sometimes they go, sometimes they won't. Can anyone shed any light on this please.

Thank you for that. I don't think you quite understood my problem. I have an email address that I am sending from. It is a me.com and I have had it for over 5 years. Sometimes an email will send, and sometimes not. So that can't be the settings surely? I can send from another icloud email address so again that must mean my settings are correct. This has been an intermittent problem for a week or so now but seems more permanent today. The message returned is "from address is not one of your addresses'. Yet one message - if I keep resending will go eventually.

Again kind of echoing what Charlotte said. I have not been able to send any email through Mail today. This applies to my alias email address. I am able to send email through my main email address.

That said, when I send email through me.com on a browser, I can send email without a problem, using either the alias or the main email, so clearly the error message Mail is giving me ("From address is not one of your addresses") pertaining to the alias is wrong.
