driving webcam connected to external monitor

I have an external monitor (Dell UltraSharp U2717D 27) connected to my MBP via a DisplayPort to USB-C cable.

I just bought a Logitech webcam (C920) that comes with a USB-A cable.

Can I plug the webcam USB-A cable directly into the Dell UltraSharp and expect the signal to carry though the DisplayPort to USB-C on my MBP?

If not, what's the best way to get this bad boy to work with my MBP?

Can I plug HDMI video input device (camera) into MacBook Air (M1, 2020)? I want to plug an HDMI video camera into my MacBook Air (M1, 2020) USB C port, but I can’t seem to find a device that will allow that. Thanks for any clues.
