Chasing where to open Airdrop files on an iPad

I just purchased a new iPad 11 inch, and am trying to figure out how to make it work in the way I need. I typically Airdrop files created on my MacBook Pro directly into a Notes Plus app so I can annotate it. I also have a number of mp3 files from older CD's that I want to import into Books or Music. But when I try to Airdrop it looks like I can only import to iCloud or to limited Apple apps. Is there some way to customize where files can be dropped? (My iPad 4 used to let me choose the app to use for opening dropped files.) Thank you!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.4.11)
