I wanted to buy my son and daughter-in-law Apple watches for Christmas but they have just heard that they will be moving to Switzerland. Assuming that they get a local contract for their phones will cellular watches purchased here in the US work there. If not I’m assuming a GPS only version would be OK.

The Cellular model Apple Watches are region based. U.S Apple Watches will not work with cellular carriers in Europe, due to the difference in supported cell bands. They will work like GPS only watches normally without the cell service being activated however.
