Why is my iCloud backup taking so long?!

I’m doing my first iCloud backup up of around 35GB from my iPhone 6s so I can transfer everything to my new iPhone 8. However, it’s about 1/4 the way done and says it could be about 16 more hours. Is it because this is a large upload or something else? How can I speed it up, as my old phone is broken and I really need to get everything into my new one?! Thank you!!

You are just going to have to wait for it to complete. You don't define what you mean by "so long". How long has it been backing up? The estimated time remaining is not something you should spend a lot of time angsting over - it fluctuates.

It’s already been about 5 hours.. and the progress bar shows it’s about 1/4 of the way completed.

Well, I would recommend that you leave it plugged in and connected to Wifi and check it in the morning.
