ipod shuffle battery not charging to 'green'

I bought my new ipod shuffle yesterday and it works fine, however it does not seem to charge properly. I have plugged it in to charge over 8 hours ago and still no green light. Anyone else have this problem?

Is the status LED steady orange or blinking orange? IF it's blinking, you'll never see a transition to green, UNLESS you EJECT the Shuffle either in iTunes or Finder.

Otherwise, patience is required AND not allowing your computer to sleep...

If you are charging your Shuffle from your CPU as opposed to a plugged charger you may encounter the problem cited.

I had this problem and charged it from a plug-in charger. I then received the green light.

I believe the problem that we encountered arises from the fact that the USB charging hasn't enough umph to push the charge to the point where the green light will come on. I expect that the shuffle after hours of charging is fully charged, just the last bit to effect the green light isn't there.

I think the analogy would be idiot lights in a car vs actual gauges. We just don't get the green light using a USB charge. Haad we a gauge, we would see the Shuffle is actually charged, presuming a long enough charge cycle.

On a related point. You should be aware that the batteries in the shuffle have a finite number of charges in them before they die. Therefore, it would be prudent to only charge the shuffle when it is necessary. i. e. let the battery run down before recharging.

I hope this helps.

Tonight (6/22) my iPod shuffle automatically updated
its software, and now the charge light does indeed
indicate 'green.'

I encourage everyone to synch/update their iPod
shuffle ASAP.

NOT SO FAST! Here's my experience:

1. When ejected either in iTunes or Finder, status LED IMMEDIATELY switches to green.

2. Unchecking "enable disk use" (and clicking Apply) does NOT affect blinking orange LED either in iTunes or out of it. Thus there's no REAL indicator of charge status except immediate green on ejecting. This basically is the same as the "green means 30%-100% charged"... which is inadequate for estimating number of hours available of playback.

I've gone back to 1.0.2 ... (luckily Reset Utility still has 1.02...) which still works like it used to.

I've sent the above as feedback to the "iPod shuffle Feedback Team".

I thought I had this problem with the 2nd gen. shuffle (where the orange light blinks, but does not charge). I was using a machine that did not have iTunes installed. I found out that when you plug your device in, Windows thinks the shuffle is being used as a USB flash drive, so it keeps the device connected for data transfers. Even if you uninstall this device, the light simply turns off and does not connect.

Bottom line: Try installing iTunes, open iTunes, then close it. What this does is associate the shuffle with iTunes instead of Windows XP taking over control of the iPod. Hope this helps!
