Incompatible GarageBand for iOS 9.3.5.

I wanted to reopen this thread as I had the same problem, "not compatible with this iPad" but I have now found the solution. What I did:-

1. On iPad went to App Store and selected purchased.

2. Then searched for GarageBand

3. Clicked on the cloud symbol. Got the not compatible stuff. Clicked "ok".

4. Clicked on it again and lo and behold got the dialogue box which asked if I wanted the last compatible version!

5. Said yes and downloaded Version 2.3.7 - works a treat.

Result!!
