Turn Off Intrusive Photo Scans in Memories and People Album

Dear Apple,

I am LIVID every time I wake up and find out that the iOS on my iPhone has been going through my photos behind my back while I was sleeping, scanning them, extracting the metadata - no doubt storing it on Apple's servers - and presenting it as innocent little musical stories.

Apple, this is INTRUSIVE and you know it. You have NO RIGHT TO INVADE MY PRIVACY THIS WAY.

STOP THAT. Give me the option to turn this off NOW. You act as if you're trying to avoid massive lawsuits years from now, when people will realize the amplitude of what you have been doing this whole time, by making it look like you've been doing this transparently all along.

The ability to turn off an undesirable feature is BASIC in any operating system. It requires a very simple fix in iOS. Just be honest and deliver. NOW.

no doubt storing it on Apple's servers -

Do not enable iCloud Photo in the Settings > Your name > Photos, if you do not want any photos metadata to be stored in iCloud.

You can disable some of the Memories, but there is no way to disable the faces scan. https://help.apple.com/iphone/10/#/iphd4f70e68fhttps://help.apple.com/iphone/10/#/iphd4f70e68f

  • Go to Settings > Photos & Camera, then turn off Show Holiday Events.
  • To block certain types of memories, block the memory, then delete it:

Delete or block a Memory movie

  • Tap the For You tab, then tap a Memory.
  • Tap ..., then tap Delete Memory or Block Memory.

No more memories of the same type will be created.
